Looking forward to a little cold-water ocean therapy in California this week 🙏🏼 it has been so extremely difficult for me to focus on the good over the past few weeks, to remember what makes me happy and to enjoy all the things in life that my dad enjoyed watching me do... one day at a time I suppose || I’m also looking forward to more photography when the right conditions align, like this beautiful day in California this past winter with @kyle_tman || @surfer_magazine.

Three weeks ago I received the worst news of my life. I woke up to missed calls and texts and subsequently had the type of phone call that changes your life. While I was asleep, my dad, Roderick John Craig, passed away at his home in Thailand. Nothing in my life had prepared me for this moment and a wave of disbelief and utter devastation flooded my heart and mind. Although the exact details surrounding his passing were still somewhat unclear, he was gone. There was no chance to say goodbye, no opportunities to be with him In his last moments, to hold his hand, to comfort him, to tell him how much I needed him in my life. No chance to tell him how much I don’t want to live in a world without him or how much I loved him. The pain from losing him has been immense and continuous. It was so sudden and untimely, I was just hanging with him 10 days earlier, drinking sake and eating sashimi, as we often did, an early birthday dinner for me before I headed back to California. *
I was so fortunate to have him as a father. I know how special it is to have the type of father/son relationship that we had. I loved my dad when I was growing up but it wasn’t until I was a little older that I realized how wonderful of a man he really was. He was vulnerable and far more candid as he got older. His passion for life and for actually living a joy-filled life was obvious, he was always positive, he was always smiling. He never hesitated to tell me how important my sister and I were to him, he always told us he loved us and it showed us in the way he hugged us, the way he smiled and the way he was there for us at any time. Nothing I type can express the gratitude I have for everything that he has done for me, our family and our friends. *
I can’t thank all of the my friends enough who have reached out and helped me during this process. The grief has come in large waves and the support has been so important to receive 🙏🏼
