thank you for everything @tordesgeants. it was a spectacular event, as always, and the amount of enthusiasm from the valley is one of a kind and totally mind-blowing. even before the deep-set hallucinations. premium organisation with the best volunteers.
anyone looking for an outrageously epic experience, #tdg is highly recommended.
back at work but my mind is still in aosta valley and my body seemingly somewhere up in the mountains around rifugio cuney.
30 miles, 8000’ of climbing, and TWO NAILED SPEARS later, another great race in the books! Colorado Rockies @spartan ultra had everything I love about racing long distance ⛰🏃♀️
Start slow enough where you can chat with other racers. Fields of wildflowers and views I had time to enjoy. Steep ascents, technical descents, plenty of bushwhacking with nature made obstacles, and enough sideways slope running my ankles still hate me the day later. Obstacle gauntlets that forced me to be creative to complete them. Moments that hurt so much I wanted to quit, and moments that felt so good I wanted to run forever. High fives, hugs, and encouragements from fellow racers. Snacks for days, pizzas to celebrate the victories, and friends that made the entire weekend another memorable adventure.
Thank you Woody for designing a course that was so challenging it made me question my fitness yet offer plenty of reward. Congrats to all of those that finished; combining the altitude, the elevation, the heat, and obstacle gauntlets, this was one of the hardest courses I’ve ever done 💪
Side note: after 3 years of racing for @spartan professionally, I think I finally learned how to throw the spear. Thanks for the lessons @tttrever !!
