New discoveries at the online book market! 😱🎊📚 I just love the idea of finding new authors for mystery and thriller and Shari Lapena is one of them. I can’t believe that I have bought this two for only $3. What a steal!
How about you? Do you enjoy buying second hand books?.

I had a half day of work today aka as I write this I’m cozied up in my apartment *finally* properly digging into THE NANNY by @GillyMacmillan 🕵🏻‍♀️ This week was full of work reading for me (I work in publishing, so I read lots of books outside of my CBTB reads, too! 🤓) but now I’m shifting gears back to my TBR list for CBTB. 🖤 I’ve been absolutely dying to get into THE NANNY, so you better believe that’s my main Friday night plan. 😉🔎
•
THE NANNY is on sale in early September, and it’s a story about a woman whose childhood nanny reappears after inexplicably disappearing decades prior. This reappearance causes our protagonist to question everything she thought she knew about her own childhood, including her troubled relationship with her mother. THE NANNY opens with a deliciously chilling scene: an unnamed narrator is on a boat in the middle of a lake, dropping a body overboard.😳 I love, love a story that hooks you from page 1, and THE NANNY sure did that for me. I’m in the mood for a story that will let me really sink into the lives and secrets of its characters, and so far, that’s the vibe THE NANNY is giving me. 🙌🏻👌🏻

What do your Friday evening plans look like?! Any other bookworms here ready for a long night of reading? 😉🤓.

You want to write a book... you want to tell powerful stories... and you want to impact the people who read your work... but you’re having a hard time staying motivated.

Here’s what you need to know: you can feel absolutely terrified to write your book, to speak your truth, and to make time for your creativity, and still take action anyway.

Most of you who struggle to write your book don’t actually believe this.

Instead, you write for a day or two and then you allow life to get in the way. You tell yourself that one day you’ll be ready to make a commitment, but only once you have more money or once you lose fifteen pounds, or once your relationship is stronger, or once you have a deeper understanding of how to get published.
And you convince yourself that these reasons are the truth - that you really can’t take action on the life you want to live because these fears and worries and concerns must be cleared up first.
So you dabble. You take baby steps. Then you stop taking steps. And you justify all of the reasons you aren’t being the total badass you’ve always wanted to be so that you feel right.

We can be our own worst critics and our own biggest enablers.

If there’s something you’ve been waiting to do in your life (creative or otherwise) I want you to take some time to think about how your life would be different if you allowed yourself to play.

What would change about your life if you could commit to writing every single day even though you aren’t sure how to write the perfect book? What would change about your life if you finally created the business you’ve been dreaming of? What would change about your life if you let go of the identity that no longer fits who you’ve become? What would change about your life if you decided that you truly didn’t care about what other people thought about you? How would your life be different if you decided to believe that the things you want for your life actually are possible?

You don’t have to deny that your fears exist, but you do need to be curious enough to push past them. What happens if you keep refusing to commit to doing thing you’ve been afraid to do? KEEP READING IN COMMENTS 👇👇👇.

Attention❗️Attention❗️Your attendance is mandatory and will not be excused. This is not a drill. The Escape Room is on the summer agenda and release date is July 30th. Be there or risk losing your Bookstagram influence 😉.
.
The injustice! The humiliation! The greed! Goodness this book got my blood boiling. The story starts out of the gate at 💯 miles an hour. Something has gone terrible wrong in the close quarters of an elevator. From there the story unfolds in two narratives. The first, in the elevator with 4 employees playing what they think is an escape room game. Vincent, Sam, Sylvia and Jules are ruthless at the Wall Street game. Devoting their lives and souls for money but will they make it out alive? The second narrative is with Sara Hall, a young ambitious woman who is new to the company. It doesn’t take long for her to discover what a battlefield it is.
.
I found Goldin’s debut so surprisingly refreshing and an excellent spotlight on sexism in the workplace. For fans of the show Billions this book is sure to have you flipping pages and completely immersed in the drama of Wall Street.
.
I give THE ESCAPE ROOM ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫’s.

Please respond to this memo and confirm your attendance.

💭Anyone else’s Wednesday feeling more like a Monday???
.
Man it’s been a day! Besides IG being down all day, it’s been hectic and frustrating my way! This is my second attempt to post about Girls Like Us and I’m hoping it works this time. 🤞🏽
.
#GirlsLikeUs is a new #psychologicalthriller from @cristina.alger and it sounds absolutely fantastic! Thank you @getredpr for gifting me a copy!
.
Summary:
FBI Agent Nell Flynn hasn't been home in ten years. Nell and her father, Homicide Detective Martin Flynn, have never had much of a relationship. And Suffolk County will always be awash in memories of her mother, Marisol, who was brutally murdered when Nell was just seven.
When Martin Flynn dies in a motorcycle accident, Nell returns to the house she grew up in so that she can spread her father's ashes and close his estate. At the behest of her father's partner, Detective Lee Davis, Nell becomes involved in an investigation into the murders of two young women in Suffolk County. The further Nell digs, the more likely it seems to her that her father should be the prime suspect--and that his friends on the police force are covering his tracks. Plagued by doubts about her mother's murder--and her own role in exonerating her father in that case--Nell can't help but ask questions about who killed Ria Ruiz and Adriana Marques and why. But she may not like the answers she finds--not just about those she loves, but about herself.
.
I will definitely be reading this one soon. It hit shelves yesterday, so make sure to grab your copy.

#ShelfieSunday! This is my #TBR shelf.... I guess you could say I've got some work to do.

What are you reading? I'm working my way through THEME MUSIC and I'm loving it. Very creepy and I HAVE to know what's going on! Hoping the author sticks the landing ;).

Yours truly caught a cold 🤧 & had the craziest start to the work week. But I’ve got a good book & copious amounts of tea & a cozy bed waiting for me when I get home, so things are looking up 🤗🙌🏻

Over on the CBTB blog, I’m so excited to share my full review of THE HEART KEEPER by Alex Dahl - a psychological suspense novel set in Norway, following a mother whose grief over the loss of her daughter turns to dark obsession. 😳 I absolutely love Alex Dahl’s writing style - it’s the perfect blend of Scandinavian sensibility + page-turning plotting for this reader, & I devoured THE HEART KEEPER over the course of a weekend last month. 🤓 Head to the link in my bio to read my full review!!🖤
•
In other reading news: I’ve only managed to read about 30 pages of Lisa Unger’s newest, THE STRANGER INSIDE, so far (shoutout to my crazy work week 😂) BUT what I’ve read so far has been very “hook-y”, for lack of a better word!😉 So far, this book is CREEPY - aka featuring an anonymous narrator stalking someone & breaking into his home 😳 and it also introduces readers to the book’s protagonist, a former investigative journalist who has put her career (and her dark past) behind her, determined to live a “normal” suburban life with her husband. This book seems like it will have a vigilante justice element to it, which is quite different from anything I’ve read lately - I’m excited to see where it goes! 🤓
