"🔹Benagil Cave is a magical place not to be missed during your stay in Algarve. In fact, it was due to this amazing place that we even discovered the south of Portugal and put it on our bucket list💫
🔹Benagil Cave is located in Lagoa which is NOT to be confused with Lagos. Lagoa is another town that is about 40mins away from Lagos. You can either split your stay between Lagos and Lagoa area or stay in one and commute to the other. We originally planned to split it but decided to extend in Lagos because we loved it and found good veggie food🥑🌿
🔹The caves are located close to Benagil beach so technically with the appropriate gear and weather conditions you can swim, paddle board or kayak there. However, please consider the weather conditions, time of the day, wind, current and tide before attempting to do so because there have been fatal accidents due to high tide or strong currents🌊🌬
🔹To reach the cave you can also get a boat tour which take you inside the cave and along the coast to discover other caves. 🔹Keep in mind that NOT all boat tours allow you to get off the boat and walk in the cave. If you wish to do so, you need to book a tour early morning 8-9AM and make sure they will allow you to get out. If you arrive after 10AM, it is very unlikely that you will be able to do so as the cave gets packed. 🔹I HIGHLY recommend to arrive there early between 8-9am - maybe 9:30 maximum- so you can really enjoy and appreciate the beauty of this place without crowds upon crowds of people and boats. 🔹If you have gear like camera, definitely don’t take the risk with the paddle board🏄♀️🏄🏻♂️
🔹I’d definitely go with the boat tour because you can also get a tour around the coast which is simply stunning 🚤"
