A lot of you Guys asked how to improve in 1 v 1. So today I am going to explain how to get better at 1 v 1 in offense and tomorrow I’ll explain defense 🛡 -
1. Change of speed
2. Change of direction
Change of Speed
The casual athlete or young coach often believe that speed is who can win the 100m sprint. This is hardly the case in team sports where acceleration and change of direction reign supreme. Of course, out on the wings having another gear can help a few times each game, but most applicable speed in soccer is done in 5 and 10 meter bursts.
The speed we notice is when you separate from a defender, and this requires a change of pace and some gamesmanship to create deception. Taking the defender away from where you truly want to go, then quickly bursting away to the open area, feinting and turning a defenders hips, or even simply changing gears as you push the ball past a slowly retreating defender can all create the separation you desire.
In order to control the ball with pace, you must learn to dribble with the outside three toes, with your foot pointed down into the pitch, and your ankle locked. We call this the ‘Messi Touch’. Practicing this must be a regular part of your training regimen, and especially doing this with your hips lowered in an athletic position. Practice going from 50% pace, then quickly bursting to 100% pace. Repeat multiple times on both feet.
Change of Direction
After learning to control the ball while accelerating hard, and at pace, it is now time to incorporate your favorite ‘move’ in order to turn the defenders hips while you change directions the other way. -
West Brom’s Craig Dawson is attracting serious interest from Burnley once again, with the Clarets set to offer £15m for the 29-year-old.
The versatile defender was a target for Sean Dyche last summer and even put in a transfer request to try and force a move away from The Hawthorns.
However, Albion held firm and managed to keep hold of the player, who was a regular throughout the campaign that ended with a play-off semi-final defeat against Aston Villa.
Following that, major changes are expected at West Brom as they try to cut costs. So, The Sun’s report suggesting Burnley will bid £15m for Dawson is likely to please key figures at the Baggies.
