🌹 “Emotional upheavals touch every part of our lives. You don’t just lose a job. You don’t just get divorced. These things affect all aspects of who we are; our financial situation, our relationships with others, our views of ourselves, our issues of life and death. Writing helps us focus and organize the experience.” -James Pennebaker, researcher & author of ‘Writing to Heal’.
🌹 In Brené Brown’s ‘Rising Strong’, she explains that Pennebaker believes that because our minds are designed to try to understand things that happen to us- translating messy, difficult experiences into language essentially makes them graspable.
Pennebaker found that limited writing or “short spurts” of writing about emotional upheavals for just 15-20 minutes on 4 consecutive days can decrease anxiety, rumination, and depressive symptoms and boost our immune systems. .
📓✍🏽 We share this with the awareness that endings, changes, and releasing can shake up your world and take a toll on our emotional and physical well-being. Whether it’s a relationship ending, job transitions, or ending a toxic cycle with your own self, we courage you to participate in “short spurts” of writing letters that will never be sent. Translating what you’re feeling, what your actions are, realizing the stories you’re telling yourself helps to take a step back and gain clarity, and hopefully, eventually gain peace, growth and transformation. 💌
You are strong. You are resilient. You are brave. And you WILL rise! ♥️ ...
