TIP OF THE DAY: Brackets, Rockers, Counters… I don’t know about you, but these difficult turns were so daunting to me growing up. I would get so confused on which was which and I would feel so inadequate for not knowing the difference. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is one of the main reasons why I like to introduce these turns to my skaters early on without addressing the name. I want my skaters to realize that these turns are actually easier than they seem. By challenging them to do this edge pull exercise they unknowingly execute brackets, rockers, and counters depending on which way they choose to turn and what edge they end up on. Here’s how you can try too: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1️⃣ Start with 3 counts of forward edge pulls then turn any direction to transition to 3 more counts of backwards edge pulls. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2️⃣ Continue the series on one foot until you can’t go anymore. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3️⃣ Repeat on the other foot so both sides are even. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

When was the last time you tripped on your toe pics? This exercise is a fun variation to a common warmup move and a really good way to find the sweet spot of the blade to maximize speed 🙌🏻 Just please be careful of your toe pics 🙈

This exercise is performed by jumping from one inside edge to the next. The key is to find the sweet spot when you land. This is where the blade will run fastest going forwards and is on the ball of the foot. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s helps to think of having your weight further back on the blade than you think when you first try this, then gradually move it closer to the ball of your foot.

Make sure you rise up on the entry of the edge and bend and press on the exit of the edge. Use your free-leg to help lift and transfer to the other foot. If you’re doing this correctly you will increase your speed with every jump.
