I’ve been busy this last week with personal stuff as our last course for the semester is based around something that can be done from home: composing our own clinical project plan.
My area of writing will be the correlation between gestational diabetes (pregnancy diabetes) and fetal risks later in life 🤰🏻🤱🏽👶🏼 .
A fun fact I thought of looking at my red jumper: did you know that when you blush, your stomach lining turns red as well? 😽 ...
⭐️EM Rotation Recap🌟
Y’all this was one of my favorite rotation! 1. The practitioners rocked, and the nurses were amazing! 2. Everyday I saw something totally different, which pushed me in just the right way. Here’s a quick recap:
HOURS: three 12-hr shifts with a mixture of days (8 am - 8 pm), swing (12 pm - 12 am), and night (8 pm - 8 am) shifts, with one EMS shift (6 am - 6 pm). My favorite shifts were the swing shifts, surprisingly!
COMMON CASES: everything!
▪️lacerations (huge dog bite!)
▪️dislocations and fractures
WHAT I GOT TO DO:
✔️take history and perform physical exams
✔️work on lots of skills! (suturing, EKGs, blood draws, etc.!)
WHAT TO KNOW:
✔️review it all
✔️as always, work on oral presentations
✔️remember what’s PERTINENT (difficult coming off IM, where we reviewed every body system)
✔️keep it concise
✔️always have 5 ddx in your head
🌟PRACTICE QUESTIONS! (Smarty Pance was great!)
🌟Review when you can on your rotation and review what you saw that day later at home!
It was wonderful! I worked mostly with PAs and one NP, and I loved it! I had a lot of autonomy as a student, and felt like my experience was pretty unique with my EMS shift. I’ve definitely gained a newfound appreciation for the fatigue of the EM world. Extra perk: this was my 7th out of 9 rotations, so I felt I had a strong foundation from my prior clinical rotations that prepared me for a majority of the cases! Could I see myself in it? Totally!
There you have it! As always, feel free to comment YOUR top tips below if you’ve done your EM rotation, as well! The more the merrier! ...
The LAST thing I’ve been wanting to do lately is go to the gym consistently. I’ve been picking up extra & doing a lot on my days off which results in wanting to sleep more than wanting to workout 🙈 .
Bought this cute new outfit, switched up my workout routine, and started dragging my sister @naazaninax to the gym with me. Let’s get this workout in before night shift 🌚🌸✨ ...
